1) Pick a time when you are relaxed , but not tired. A time when there will be NO distractions. One hour (at least) is needed. Make sure to turn off the telephone!
2)Prepare a space to comfortably lie down. Make sure the space is dark, or can be darkened with shading or eye cover. To receive the best experience and benefits from Salvia, I have found a dark environment to be essential.
3)Determine and clarify INTENT!
4)Clean your body and work space. A feather and smudge work well for this purpose.
5)Prepare an amount of Salvia leaf in a water pipe that will fill your lungs to capacity. Be careful not to over do it, the idea is to keep it in the lungs, not to cough it out! DO NOT use a vaporizer.*
6)Ignite the Salvia using the highest heat source available. If you have a small torch – this works best. Otherwise use a lighter that is turned up on high – this works okay. The active ingredient in Salvia is activated under high heat.
7)Hold the hit in for up to 15 seconds.
8)Lie down, shut your eyes, and surrender into the experience. Because of Salvia’s tendencies of disassociation I find it a good practice to say to oneself ” I’ve just smoked Salvia” right as you lie down.
9)Duration of experience varies from person to person, generally lasting anywhere between five minutes and one hour. The residuals can last up to three hours. All effects from Salvia can vary with each individuals body chemistry.**
10)Driving is not recommended for at least one hour after the experience.
*Vaporizers can deceive one as to how much active principle one is actually absorbing, and it is therefore possible to absorb too much.
**Some people do not feel anything when they smoke Salvia their first time. It may take several times of using before one feels anything, or one may need to use an extract in order to feel effects. Some people on the other hand have out-of-body experiences from one good hit of straight leaf. It is a “funny” medicine this way.
