On Sadness

It seems inevitable that just by being a human, with strong emotions, or possibly just having a little larger Emotional Intelligence than the average person, one may assess that this is a very sad world. How is it possible, that is, if one has a true sense of empathy, to ignore all the suffering that is a constant in the equation at any given moment in our existence and through the history of mankind? For through all of our history there has been serious suffering amongst our species, not to mention the suffering of all the other species on the planet that have been subjected to mankind’s evasiveness on their turf. For we as a species alone have been causing atrocities that every living thing is involuntarily subjected to throughout our existence. So, how again may I ask? How? How can any empathic, sensitive human continue to persevere through history without feeling sadness?? How is it possible to go through life unaffected by all the suffering around us, even if we are not the ones directly subjected to the atrocities? How is that possible? Well…. It’s not! Believe me. I suffer for others ALL the time and I know I’m not the only one.  We may even feel others suffering subconsciously or subliminally. Maybe empathic or sensitive people take on the suffering of others more than we realize. Maybe we are more ‘sponge-like’ than we would like to admit, taking on and retaining the suffering of others.  Maybe we act as ‘keepers’ of the sadness. It may be possible for some of us to transmute those feelings into something more positive, but this will not be possible for all. And even if we can transmute it, believe me, it is NOT an easy task! So, amidst this world of continuing struggle, suffering and subsequent sadness we must somehow remain strong, keep our heads up and persevere through the sadness with the power of love, while continuing to think positive and emanate as much love to everyone as possible without devitalizing our spirits. Love is the answer. Love is the rule. “Love is the Law.”
